AWIM: Alaska Women
in Management

Next session starts January 2011

Education and training are key to securing an in-demand, good wage job in today's market. If you're ready to step into your future, the Alaska Women in Management (AWIM) program can help you reach your educational and career goals.

Designed to ease the transition from education to career entry, the AWIM program provides you with intensive academic preparation, career pathways exploration, and employment skills training. After attending one semester of academic instruction (with the opportunity to earn a GED), you'll choose a short-term educational program in one of three career pathways:

  • Small Business Management
  • Tribal/Non-Profit Management
  • Construction/Trades Management

In addition, you'll have access to internships, on-the-job training or apprenticeships with local employers.

The nine-month AWIM program offers:

  • Intensive academic instruction (and GED preparation) with emphasis on the math and business writing skills that lead to success in the workplace.
  • Career pathways exploration to identify the best jobs for your interests and aptitudes and determine the education and/or training that is necessary to enter these fields.
  • Short-term educational programs in Small Business Management, Tribal/Non-Profit Management, and Construction/Trades Management.
  • Core skills classes in budgeting and finance, business writing, project management, grant writing, supervision and leadership and more.
  • Career counselors to assist in resume writing, interview techniques, and networking skills.
  • Access to internships, on-the-job training or apprenticeships with local employers.
  • Personal and academic support every step of the way!

The AWIM program is open to women in Fairbanks and surrounding Interior communities. Women with a high-school diploma or GED are encouraged to apply. For more information, please contact Therese Paetschow, AWIM Coordinator 452-6434 x 233 or tpaetschow@adultlearning.org
