GED - Adult Basic Education
Adult Learning Programs of Alaska serves Interior Alaska as the Regional Adult Basic Education Program. Classes to increase basic skills in reading, writing and math are offered on a regular schedule. We also serve as the Regional Testing Center for the General Educational Development (GED). Our Adult Basic Education classes help prepare students for the GED tests as well as employment and post-secondary education. Our process includes orientation, pre- and post-assessment, advisement and instruction.
During orientation, our students are introduced to the agency and the services we offer. In order to ensure we meet students' needs on their level, we assess their skills to determine their strengths and weaknesses. Through advisement, we discuss the students' goals, strengths and weaknesses. Together, we develop a plan of study to enhance their strengths, improve their weaknesses, and ultimately achieve their goals. We utilize methods of instruction that are proven to increase skill levels of learners at all levels. Finally, we administer post-assessments to measure the gains the student has achieved.
“Getting my GED has meant that I can further my education at UAF where I am pursuing a double major in Engineering. Without ALPA and my GED, this could not have been possible.”
—Ashley, Class of 2009
