REAL: Rural Education for Adult Learners GED Program

In today’s economic times, job seekers are being faced with higher education requirements. Virtually all employers require at least high school diploma or GED.

The REAL GED program is focused on providing Alaska Natives better access to GED services. The program is a mixture of one-on-one tutoring, workshops, on-line tutoring and independent study. The program offers services in Fairbanks designed to assist Alaska Natives prepare for successful completion of the GED. All travel (from outside FBNS Borough), fees, and room & board are provided by the grant.

Summer 2010 Session

For the Summer of 2010 we will be offering evening classes throughout the month of July and August, beginning June 28th.
Reading/Writing classes will be held Mondays & Wednesdays from 6-9 pm. Math classes will be held Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6-9 pm. We will also be offering evening/weekend testing sessions. This program is open to current and new students. To apply, complete the application and contact Adult Learning Programs of Alaska to schedule your initial assessment. Students living within the Fairbanks North Star Borough have access to our traditional GED program in addition to the REAL GED Program.

The students traveling to Fairbanks will stay for 2 weeks where they will receive academic preparation in Reading, Writing, and Math. The academic preparation includes individualized assessments, focused instruction and effective guided and independent practice. At the end of the two weeks, students will be given a post-assessment. If they achieve the required score, they will be administered the Official GED Tests.

To be eligible for the REAL GED Program you must:

* Be Alaska Native and live with in the TCC/Doyon Region
* Be at least 16 years old (18 years old if traveling into Fairbanks)
* Complete an application

o  Application for local students  (within the Fairbanks Northstar Borough)

o  Application for rural students  (outside the Fairbanks Northstar Borough)
